Snow today closed the A939 between Aberdeenshire and Moray – traditionally the first road of the winter to be shut.
The snow gates cordoning off a ten-mile stretch between Cock Bridge and Tomintoul were shut around noon, the Traffic Scotland information service reported.
It includes the Lecht snowsports centre, which is at nearly 2,100ft.
The snowfall came as temperatures were forecast to plummet by tomorrow night.
They are expected to fall to -6C in some remote Highland glens, -5C at Braemar in Aberdeenshire and -3C in Glasgow and Dumfries.
