A Conroe man with a long rap sheet of child sex crimes is facing a jury today on the most recent accusations that he sexually assaulted a young boy over a four-month period in 2007.
Timothy Thompson is facing up to life in prison for the alleged abuse, which came out in June 2008 when the boy confided in another person about the encounters. The boy told the person that Thompson forced him to perform oral sex on him while in his home from February to May 2007, court records show.
Thompson also will be tried on charges that he agreed to meet up with a minor he met online to perform sexual acts. He originally was convicted for that in 2009 on online solicitation of a minor charges, but a January 2016 Court of Criminal Appeals decision overturned that conviction because the court had ruled the statute under which Thompson was convicted is unconstitutional.
He had been indicted under a separate statute for the 2009 charge by the time the appeals court released its decision.
In total, Thompson is being tried on eight felony charges, which include four first-degree felonies for aggravated sexual assault of a child, one second-degree felony charge for online solicitation of a minor under 14, and three third-degree felonies for criminal attempt.
Thompson’s attorney could not be reached by press time.
Thompson’s sexual criminal history dates back to January 2000 when he was convicted of sexual assault of a child in Harris County. He had received six years’ probation, but was sent to prison for the rest of his sentence in October 2001 for violating the terms of his probation, court records show.
In January 2007, he was charged with attempted indecency with a child in Montgomery County for allegedly touching a young girl inappropriately months earlier. The 2007 charge was dropped when he was convicted in the 2009 online solicitation of a minor case, court records show.
The young girl from the January 2007 case has since come forward and said Thompson actually sexually assaulted her, admitting to more abuse than previously thought when the 2007 charges were filed, court records show.
About a year after the January 2007 charges, Thompson allegedly repeatedly exposed his genitals to a young girl in Liberty County. He was charged there in that case and was convicted in 2013 for indecency with a child.
