When it came time for delivery for one expectant mother, you could say things were a bit ‘up in the air.’
On a recent Southwest Airlines flight, things took an unexpected turn when there was suddenly a need for a doctor on board. The plane was due to go from Philadelphia to Orlando but had to make an emergency pit stop in Charleston, South Carolina when a woman on board went into labor.
Thankfully for her and her new child, Dr. Bhasker Patel of Palm Bay was on the flight coming home from vacation and helped safely deliver the baby on the plane before mother and child were taken to a nearby hospital.
After the mild detour, the plane was back up in the air and on its merry old way to the Sunshine State. The doctor that delivered the baby is a physician in the ER. He was on his way to a conference in Orlando but had to miss the opening proceedings because he was taking care of other, more important matters.
