Active and retired military personnel are being honored during the week of Veterans Day with the following events.
In observation of Veterans Day, Oak Ridge Associated Universities Diversity Council is hosting the Veterans Appreciation Day program, “A Legacy: Honoring Our Veterans” at 11:30 p.m.,Thursday, Nov. 10. Eddie Mannis, founder of HonorAir Knoxville will serve as the keynote speaker. HonorAir takes World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans from East Tennessee to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built to honor their sacrifice, at no cost to the veteran. Nearly 3,000 East Tennessee veterans had made the trip to the nation’s capital as a result of the nonprofit organization and its volunteers. The free event will be held at ORAU Pollard Auditorium, 210 Badger Ave., Oak Ridge.
Cansler YMCA, 616 Jessamine St. will be hosting “Honor Our Heroes” health fair from 10 a.m. to 2 pm. Wednesday, Nov. 9, including free haircuts by employees of Ross the Boss and blood pressure checks. Representatives from various military organizations will be on hand.
From 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, all participating International House of Pancakes will be offering veterans and active duty military a free order of buttermilk pancakes topped with glazed strawberries, blueberry compote and whipped topping. Calhoun’s Restaurants will be offering a free meal to active duty and retired military from its standard menu beginning at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day. A complimentary Krystal sausage biscuit will be offered to all active duty and retired military from 6-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day at all participating Krystal restaurants.
