Gonzaga students take to the sidewalks to spread positive messages

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University students took to campus sidewalks to spread messages of love, support and unity on Friday.

Katie Herzog, Program Specialist at GU, said students placed anti-Donald Trump messages around campus on Thursday. Some of the messages were considered hate speech and were taken down.

On Friday morning, students and staff entered campus to find sidewalks covered in chalk with positive messages encouraging students to come together.

One of the sidewalks notes said, “You are welcome, you are wanted.”

Another said “Things stronger than hate: Compassion, your voice, acceptance, kindness, unity, love.”

When campus police saw the messages, they said the students’ work was “pretty impressive.”
