Heroes Free Tiny Dog Trapped In A Tree

Rescuing terrified animals stuck high up in tree branches is normally pretty straightforward, however, Kentucky officers had to get creative when a small dachshund got trapped inside one.

This past week, two off-duty Kentucky State Troopers were mowing the grass in a cemetery when they heard an animal in distress. “Sergeant Michael Williams and Trooper Gerrick Sullivan were mowing a cemetery in Salem, Kentucky when they heard the barks of a dog coming from a wooded area,” Kentucky State Police said in a post to Facebook.

“After several minutes of looking, the troopers found a dachshund, later identified as “Rocco”, trapped inside the trunk of a tree,” Kentucky State Police explained. “The dog had gotten inside the tree through a nearby groundhog hole and was unable to get out.”

Williams and Sullivan tried to get Rocky free, but when it became clear they were going to need some help, they called the Salem Fire Department. Firefighters came up with a plan to cut Rocky free with a chainsaw but had to be extremely careful not to hurt Rocky.

Salem Firefighter Daniel Newcomb cut part of the tree, allowing for the dog to be freed safely. The dog was then returned to his owner. The opening in the tree was made larger, should Rocco or another dog find themselves inside the tree again,” Kentucky State Police said.
