The “Glory of Love” continues…in Lifetime’s Beaches.

As fans can hear in the exclusive promo above – which announces the movie’s Saturday, Jan. 21 premiere date – Idina Menzel is following in Bette Middler’s musical footsteps while putting her own spin on the heartbreaking ’80s classic. She won’t be alone on the boardwalk, though: Nia Long will also star in the remake of the Midler-Barbara Hershey flick.

Much like the original the film follows the story of CC (Menzel), an aspiring singer, and Hillary (Long), the daughter of a civil rights lawyer, who become lifelong best friends despite coming from two different worlds.

The film is executive-produced by Denise Di Novi ( Crazy Stupid Love) and Alison Greenspan ( If I Stay).

Beaches premieres Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime.
