Jeremy Renner Would Be Down For a Hawkeye Netflix Series

After playing a mind-controlled Hawkeye for much of 2012’s “The Avengers,” much to his dismay, Jeremy Renner was able to explore the character a little more in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Captain America: Civil War.” However, the Oscar nominee admits he’d like a chance to dig deeper into Clint Barton.

While promoting his new film “Arrival,” Renner was asked whether he’d be interested in starring as Hawkeye in a Marvel series on Netflix, home to “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and the upcoming “Iron Fist,” “The Defenders” and “The Punisher.”

“I don’t know the practicality of that,” he told IGN, “but any of these characters I play, I’d love to dig into them more. I never feel like I get enough time with any character I play, and that’s one of them.”

However unlikely it might be, a 13-episode season would certainly give Renner the time he’d like with Hawkeye.

In 2012, he revealed his displeasure with the characterization of Hawkeye in “The Avengers,” saying, ““At the end of the day, 90 percent of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play. I’m literally in there for two minutes, and then all of a sudden … All I could really work on was the physical part of it all, because that didn’t change.”

Earlier this year Renner divulged that he spent much of his time on set trying to provide opportunities for the filmmakers to kill off Hawkeye. “I just had a heart attack in every scene – I’d just be walking with … Scarlett Johansson, and just like be ugh,” he said, clutching his chest. “And they said, ‘What are you doing man?’ ‘I’m giving you an option, if you just want to kick me out of this movie. Just you know, at any given moment, if you wanna kill me off, daddy’s gonna be having a heart attack.’”

He’ll next be seen as Hawkeye in 2018 in “Avengers: Infinity War.”
