There are many reasons why dogs are abandoned at local animal shelters and not all of them are because of evil owners. However, not many are as heartbreaking as one dog’s story and the reason why is anything but what you would imagine.
A dog with a name only a kid could come up with, Rhino Lightning, was dropped off at the Humane Society of Utah recently with an adorable, although saddening, 15-page letter from a child to match.
“It’s the first time that a child has done this, and it was very heartbreaking to see from his perspective his relationship and friendship with this dog, but we hope that he sees the story and knows that his best friend is going to find a new home,” DeAnn Shephard of the Humane Society of Utah told Fox 13 of how they had never received a dog with handwritten instructions to find them a good home.
“Rhino is a striped dream,” the little girl’s note read. “His cheeks make a lot of slobber.” The heartbreaking note explained that the little girl was upset that she had to give Rhino Lightning away, but left details to help find the dog the perfect home for good.
“He was my puppy. I really hope he is in a good environment. I really miss him. I wish he knew that he was a pretty puppy,” she added.
The shelter told Fox 29 that some people have shown interest in the energetic dog since his sweet story was shared and they expect to find a home that fits his previous owner’s special demands perfectly.
