If you’ve ever been to a desert, you know there aren’t too many people walking around, which is why one cruel person thought it was the perfect place to dump an old duffel bag with a dog trapped inside.

Rather than bringing the dog into a shelter and giving the dog a chance at finding a home with someone who actually wanted him, the monster tossed the scared dog in an old duffel bag, and left him out in the desert. And if someone did happen to pass by the bag, it would look just like the other random trash dumped in the desert.

However, when one California man was out for a drive, he spotted the bag. At first, he assumed it was trash, but just as he was about to drive by, he saw the bag move. The good samaritan got out to take a closer look, and when he unzipped the bag, a small terrier dog popped out.

“Trash in the desert is all too common, which is why he was going to drive around it,” the Victor Valley Animal Protective League wrote. “That is, until it moved. Fortunately, the dog was found before suffering any harm, saving him from a horrific death.”

“We named the sweet boy Duff, and he’s now in a forever home thanks to a Good Samaritan,” the Victor Valley Animal Protective League said.
