Marvel Concept Art Reveals Cut Ant-Man Villain & Secret Spider-Man Message

At one point in time, Ant-Man was slated to be the first Marvel Phase 3 movie, but it was eventually shifted to become the final Phase 2 movie, paving the way for to kick off the latest slate. As we look ahead to the future of Phase 3, new concept art images have surfaced, which tease that Ant-Man almost featured the presence of an iconic Marvel villain, while Captain America: Civil War almost showcased a secret message between Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland). If you still haven’t seen either of these movies yet, there will be spoilers below, so read on at your own risk.

The Ant-Man concept art surfaced on the official website for artist Josh Nizzi, which reveals that the villainous Arnim Zola, played by Toby Jones, appeared in the movie at one point. Toby Jones made his MCU debut as Arnim Zola in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, before returning in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There had been rumors that Zola may have been a part of the movie’s prologue, set in 1989.

We saw in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that his consciousness had been uploaded to a massive computer, and it seems that if he would have surfaced in Ant-Man, he would have had a new robotic body upgrade. Still, these designs were never used, and we still haven’t seen the character surface since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, with many expecting him to return in Captain America: Civil War, although that didn’t happen.

The second piece of concept art is from the post-credit scene of Captain America: Civil War, where Peter Parker is seen using his new Spider-Man beacon in his room. This new image, which comes from the visual effects house Perception, reveals that there was actually a secret message, with Tony Stark asking Peter Parker to “swing by the Tower,” referring to Avengers Tower. The message continues, “Got some upgrades you should see.”

Tom Holland has teased that his new Spider-Man suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming will feature some upgrades from his Captain America: Civil War suit. No details about this new suit have been confirmed yet, but hopefully we’ll get to see Spidey and his new suit in action when the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives. Until then, take a look at the concept art for Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War below.
