It’s October and we feel like a treat – our summer tan has long gone and the Christmas holidays are a little too far away to justify a countdown – so it’s time for a one-day holiday. A day trip focused on indulgence, pampering and general “you-ness” is the perfect miniature break – a little recharger before taking on winter with a spring in your step.
This is why we love the idea of #1dayescapes – a chance to re-coop and relax while doing something different for an entire day. Take a look at some of our favourite day trip ideas below to feel inspired:
Located just outside of London (46 minutes in fact, from Marylebone station), Bicester Village makes for a perfect day of you-ness. Grab a girlfriend and hop on a train to Bicester’s very own station before exploring more than 130 shops filled with all our favourite boutiques – covering winter’s strongest trends (boots to knee high and above; shearling coats; velvet and tweed to name a few) as well as endless wardrobe classics to justify a little credit card action aimed at Tory Burch, Ruperst Sanderson, Sandro or Temperley, as well as beauty bits from the likes of L’Occitane and Molton Brown. It’s (very) easy to lose a day (or more) here… Add cool homeware from people including the always-great White Company – plus great food, valet parking and … what’s not to love?! It’s a one day Pretty Woman experience and it’s definitely going to make you feel better.
A spa day is a standard – delicious – way to relax, but the Corinthia Hotel is the Beyonce of all pampering experiences (with possibly the best changing rooms in London). A little planet of self indulgence, it feels entirely separate from the real world with gleaming, silent pools; saunas walled in thick, noise-eliminating glass and sumptuous treatments. Take a wander along the South Bank first to take in all the sights and sounds, before crossing the Golden Jubilee Bridge to thoroughly cleanse your body and soul. You definitely, definitely deserve it.
There’s nothing quite like a deluxe tea for spoiling yourself and Claridge’s does some of the absolute best in perfectly geometric sandwiches, gloriously baked scones and delectable cakes as you sit back and enjoy Thierry Despont’s stunning Art Deco foyer. And don’t even get us started on the majestic range of teas…Make a day of it by taking in the Abstract Expressionism exhibition at the Royal Academy, then meander down New Bond Street for a little window shopping (which always turns into actual shopping by the time you reach Victoria’s Secret on the corner of Brook Street), before the full Claridge’s experience. Champagne optional but recommended.
Lose yourself amid the historic house and gardens at Blenheim Palace for a day of complete, fairytale distraction. A four-hour tour takes in the State Rooms, private areas and formal gardens, with plenty of time left over to hang out in the Orangerie and feel like princess. Combine it with one of their Open Air Cinema events – or their National Champagne Week celebrations during October – (we’ll see you there…). It’s a touch of culture into the mix – and will give you a whole new perspective as you return to life in the fast lane the next day.
