Panicked people crowded shops as salt shortage rumours spread across parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday night.
News agency ANI reported that in some shops, salt was being sold at rates as high as Rs 200 per kilogram.
The Moradabad DM, however, dismissed the rumours. “The rumours that salt will be sold at higher rates led to panic among people today,” he said.
The Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljit Chaudhary said that action would be taken against those spreading these rumours. “There is no shortage of salt,” he said.
Consumer Affairs Secy Hem Pande speaks to ANI on rumours of salt shortage in states: This is a rumour, no need to panic.
More details awaited.
