Talk about being in the right place at exactly the right time!
What started as a beautiful, sunny day snowboarding in the Chilean Andes mountains turned into a shocking and selfless rescue that Rafeal Pease never expected to happen on his birthday.
While Pease and a friend were snowboarding with his GoPro camera in tow, he noticed a rock in the distance that turned out to be a horse stuck in the snow.
“My 21st birthday happened to be the first storm of the season in South America, so I went out to ride some four-feet of fresh powder in Chile,” Pease wrote in a blog post for The Inertia. “However, my plans quickly changed when I thought I saw a rock in the distance but found a stranded horse instead, stuck in the snow.”
Thankfully, the heroes didn’t hesitate to rush over and dig out the terrified horse, giving her a second chance at life.
“I have been through a lot in life, and through it all I have realized that it’s well worth it to watch out for others — whether they are human or not. And that’s what me and my riding partner did. What we learned when we finally reunited the horse with its owner was that the horse had been missing for four days,” Pease wrote.
“Hopefully, this inspires you to get out there and not only live your life to the fullest, but to help others do the same.”
