Soldier Stuns Girlfriend With Surprise Proposal And Wedding

During one U.S. Green Beret soldier’s 23-year career in the military, he’s taken part in numerous tours around the world and countless secret missions.

But Master Sergeant Rusty Newton just completed the most important secret mission of his life this past weekend when he successfully proposed to his girlfriend and then became her husband within one hour. “Will you marry me?,” Newton asked. “Yeah, today though? Like today, right now today?” his stunned girlfriend Ashley Lohmueller said in response. “Yep, it’s all set up. News 13 we’re doing this!” Newton said.

Lohmueller always knew she wanted to marry Newton, but never imagined it would happen just minutes after getting engaged. She also always imagined she’d have to do most of the wedding planning, but Newton took care of everything even though he was deployed almost halfway around the world.

While deployed, Newton sent money to friend Kim McNeal, who helped pick the venue and bought the rings. “It was terrifying. I was, it felt like I needed a security guard or something,” McNeal said. But all his hard work paid off when Lohmueller said yes to the crazy plan. “It’s awesome my son is truly a romantic,” said Carol Newton, the groom’s mother.

Minutes after the couple got engaged, family and friends started arriving as Lohmueller got changed into her wedding dress. Soon after, Newton and Lohmueller said their vows and were officially husband and wife. “I’m glad she said yes. Pressure’s off whew!” Newton said. “It worked perfectly, surprise!”
