Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen are set to return for Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s ninth season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The husband-and-wife duo, who played themselves on Larry David’s long-running HBO series, will join the series’ core cast – David, Jeff Garlin, Cheryl Hines and Susie Essman – who are all set to come back when the show makes it comeback.
Danson currently stars on NBC’s The Good Place, while Steenburgen can be seen on Fox’s Last Man on Earth.
After a nearly five-year gap ( Curb last aired an original episode in September 2011), the network announced a ninth season for the beloved comedy in June. “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned,’” the Seinfeld creator said of the decision to bring back his TV alter ego.
In addition to reuniting the gang on-screen, Jeff Schaffer is back to executive produce the season with David. David Mandel and Alec Berg will also lend a hand around their other current HBO shows, Veep, and Silicon Valley and Barry, respectively. All three served as executive producers when the series ran from 2000 to 2011.
“If everything can work itself out, then maybe there’s some way I can finish my schedule on Veep and then be around, maybe in my editing period, to hopefully help out,” Veep showrunner Mandel at the time. “That’s my hope.”
Though a premiere date has yet to be announced for the planned 10 new episodes, Schaffer after the news first broke in June that he and David were already plugging away on the new season.
“It won’t be long. It won’t be long. Geologically speaking, it’ll be a blink of an eye,” he said about when fans will see the finished product. “Whether the next season of Curb came out one year later, three years later, five years later, 20 years later – detailing the petty behavior of the selfish and the self-serving is an evergreen business.”
The eighth season of Curb ended with Larry in Paris with Leon, played by J.B. Smoove. Though Smoove has yet to be confirmed, Danson and Steenburgen’s castings are a sign that the expanded Curb family will be together again.
“We’d love to have everyone back,” said Schaffer about working around everyone’s schedules. Similar to Danson and Steenburgen’s other TV gigs, Hines and Garlin are series regulars on Fox’s Son of Zorn and ABC’s The Goldbergs, respectively “And I think everyone wants to be back, so it should be business as usual.”
Danson is repped by Industry Entertainment and WME. Steenburgen is repped by Management 360 and UTA.
