THIS takes inner-city apartment living to a whole new level.
Five studio apartments — four singles and one double — ranging from 16 square metres to 20 square metres are on the market to rent from $250 per week.

This makes the floor space of the studios, located in a 64-unit block in Sydney’s inner west, about the size of a single-car garage or slightly bigger than the average size caravan, which measures about 12 square metres.
In New South Wales the minimum internal area of a studio apartment, required by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, is 35 square metres.
However, the block at 187-191 Parramatta Road, Camperdown, is a boarding house offering affordable housing. The minimum room space required for a studio in a boarding house is 12 square metres for singles and 16 square metres for doubles.
Affordable housing differs from social housing as they are managed like private rental properties and are open to a broader range of household incomes. There is still eligibility criteria, however, and the managers are mostly not-for-profit community housing providers.
To be eligible to apply for affordable housing, a single person must earn no more than $48,527 and a couple $67,091 gross annually.
The manager of the Camperdown complex, Evolve Housing, said the interest in the micro-apartments has been overwhelming and varied.
“Interest has been above the normal for studios,” Evolve’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Jody Gould told news.com.au.
“The interest is varied and there is quite a spread in terms of demographic. It’s less about age and more about household type, for instance single or coupled households.”
The majority of the complex’s current tenants (approximately 70%) are aged between 20-40 years with some tenants having lived there since the apartments were released in 2013.
“They are proving more popular than traditional studios because of their affordable pricing,” Ms Gould said.
According to Evolve, the units are priced at 20% below market rent, ranging from $230 to $316. However, the studios come fully furnished and the weekly rent includes electricity and water.
A quick search on flatmates.com.au reveals furnished rooms in share houses in Camperdown advertised mostly from the low to mid $300 range. This includes bills but does not guarantee your own bathroom.
“These micro-apartments are more popular than most studios because they are affordably priced and they have a functional innovative design that includes a small kitchen and full bathroom,” Andrea Galloway, CEO of Evolve Housing said.
“They are a viable affordable option to shared accommodation as a person can live independently with privacy.”
The complex also features a communal kitchen dining area.
