We have all likely suffered from the annoying ingrown toenail at some point in our lives: it appears out of nowhere, then remains for days as the skin around the nail aches and swells. There’s typically no cure for an ingrown toenail; you just have to wait it out in most cases. But a strange new Japanese contraption, known as the ” Makizume Robo Ingrown Toenail Fixer,” claims to solve that problem for you.
In a video posted by Japan Trend Shop, you can see how the device works – first by latching onto the two sides of the nail that have dug deeply into the toe, which make the nail more C-shaped than flat. The tool comes at a hefty price of $315.
“Don’t suffer over an ingrown toenail any longer,” the website states. “With the Makizume Robo Ingrown Toenail Fixer you can manually straighten your painful ingrowing nails in around 30 minutes of self-treatment.” After gently pulling the sides of the nail up with the tool, you dip your foot in warm water for 20 minutes, which supposedly helps pull the nail out of the skin even more.
There are various factors that cause ingrown toenails. A recent study conducted by physicists examined the different ways that nails can curve and pinch, ultimately causing swelling. They found that cutting your toenails too short or not cutting them straight across, your posture, foot hygiene, and the type of shoes you wear can all have an impact on whether you develop ingrown toenails.
Most ingrown toenails will fix themselves. But if it gets really serious it can cause a bone infection. In these severe cases, you might have to go see your podiatrist in order to get it removed.
