It took seven years, but Tom Ford has finally returned with his follow-up effort to 2009’s A Single Man. The eerie, haunting thriller Nocturnal Animals premieres this weekend, and its cast, including stars Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal and supporting cast members Ellie Bamber, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon, Isla Fisher, and more all turned out to celebrate its Los Angeles premiere. And though the occasion for the party was Tom Ford’s film work, each and every one of his stars – and still more of his fans, including Rita Ora and January Jones – showed up in Tom Ford designs, each one as elegant and stylish as his screen work. Though his sleek column gowns made numerous appearances, it was Jones’s daring velvet blazer paired with a tight black top and pants that stood out among the chic Tom Ford-heeled crowd.
When: Friday, November 11.
Where: The Los Angeles premiere of Tom Ford’s sophomore film Nocturnal Animals with Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Ellie Bamber.
What: A midnight-blue velvet blazer by Tom Ford over black pants and a black bodysuit with a plunging neckline and “petrol blue” satin sandals.
Why: Slightly slouchy, with big patch pockets, wide labels, and broad shoulders, Jones’s deep blue velvet blazer contrasts with the daring of the tight black top, with its deep, cleavage-baring neckline, and pants she wears underneath. We’ve said it before, and we’ll continue saying it throughout the fall and winter: Velvet is in. To complement such a wardrobe statement, Jones foregoes accessories and jewelry, keeps it simple in the shoe department with sandals in a contrasting shade of blue, and opts for a fresh-faced look: minimalist makeup and dewy skin with a sleek side-parted updo. Tom Ford already has quite a devoted following, from Julianne Moore and Amy Adams to Naomi Campbell, but we think he’s found his new leading lady in January Jones.
