THE first full trailer for the long-awaited sequel to Trainspotting has been released by film bosses.

Eager fans were given a preview of scenes from T2 Trainspotting, starring Ewan McGregor and Robert Carlyle and directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle.

The two-minute clip of the follow up to the 1996 film opens with Mark Renton, played by Ewan McGregor, walking into a rundown bar to meet Jonny Lee Miller’s character Sick Boy who says: “Hello Mark, so what have you been up to for 20 years.”

McGregor is then heard reciting an updated version of his famous ‘Choose Life’ speech from the original as scenes from the new movie are played in which he visits Spud, played by Ewen Bremner, and Kelly Macdonald’s character Diane.

In the new monologue, he says: “Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares.

“Choose looking up old flames and wishing you had done it all differently and choose watching history repeat itself.

“Choose your future, choose reality TV, slut shaming, revenge porn, choose a zero hour contract, a two hour journey to work and choose the same for your kids only worse and smother the pain with an unknown dose of an unknown drug made in somebody’s kitchen and then take a deep breath.”

He adds: “You’re an addict so be addicted just be addicted to something else. Choose the ones you love, choose your future, choose life.”

The footage also shows Robert Carlyle’s psychotic character returning to a bar run by Sick Boy after being released from prison.

He is later seen pursuing and attacking Renton who stole money from him at the end of the first film.

Landmarks in Edinburgh are shown throughout the trailer as McGregor travels on a tram and runs through Parliament Square.

Dance track Born Slippy by Underworld, a massive hit from the original soundtrack, is played over the scenes.

The official poster was also released with the four characters placed in adjacent toilet cubicles in an echo of the infamous ‘Worst Toilet in Scotland’ scene from the first film.

Fans on social media were impressed with their first glimpse of the new film.

Michael Place said: “New trailer for Trainspotting 2 looks great. Looking forward to seeing it now.”

Dan Hollingworth said: “Trainspotting 2 trailer did not disappoint %23chooselife.”

A teaser trailer had been released in July by studio Sony Pictures just days after shooting on the movie wrapped in Edinburgh after 54 days.In this first look at footage from the new film, Renton, played by McGregor, Spud, played by Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller’s character Sick Boy and Carlyle as Begbie were featured.

They were glimpsed in a echo of a scene from the original, standing on a platform as a ScotRail train trundles through as Iggy Pop’s Lust for Life plays in the background.

The video was released online by studio Sony Pictures just days after shooting on the movie wrapped in Edinburgh after 54 days.

Trainspotting 2 will be released in cinemas on January 27, 2017 and in the US a week later.

The movie is based on the book Porno, Edinburgh writer Irvine Welsh’s follow-up to Trainspotting.

It sees Carlyle’s character Begbie serving time for killing someone before he is reunited with old pals including Renton.

The cast spent more than two months filming in various locations around Scotland, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bellshill in Lanarkshire and Blackburn in West Lothian

McGregor tweeted that he was “gutted” to finish filming, while writer Welsh said: “T2 wraps today in Edinburgh. Been another crazy trip in the best possible company. Thanks to everybody who got involved and supported us.”

Last week McGregor, 45, revealed he originally feared he wasn’t Scottish enough to play Renton again having lived out of the country for so many years.

He said: “I left Scotland when I was 17. I was thinking ‘what if I can’t find him, what if I can’t find Renton?’

“But I am Renton and he is me. Once I got on set it was fine.”
