Shawn Mendes took the stage tonight at the American Music Awards to play two of his biggest hits from sophomore album Handwritten.

Performing isolated on a diamond-shaped stage with faux-fireworks going off on the screen behind him, Mendes delivered a full performance of Billboard Hot 100 top 10 smash “Treat You Better,” before segueing into a more abbreviated, piano-led version of latest single “Mercy.”
