You’ll Never Believe the Real Story Behind Benetint Lip & Cheek Stain

Benetint Lip Cheek Stain is celebrating its fortieth anniversary with a pretty, pink flower crown. On October 1, the brand launched a limited-edition Benetint Lip Cheek Stain with a lovely little rosebud-shaped top to honor its origins.

The founders of Benefit, Jean and Jane Ford, created their very first product, Benetint Lip Cheek Stain, as a nipple tint for exotic dancers in 1976 in their small shop in San Francisco. Yup, the product that’s now perking up everyone’s lips and cheeks was originally intended to make the nipples of the dancers in the Mission District stand out a bit more. The Fords boiled rose petals and carmine to produce the red stain after a dancer requested something to make her nipples more prominent. The woman loved the concoction so much that she gave a couple bottles to her fellow dancers. And the rest is beauty history. Now iconic actresses like Winona Ryder and Nicole Kidman cite the liquid as a mainstay in their makeup bags to give them a beautiful cheek flush or a just-bitten lip stain.

The limited-edition

will be available tomorrow on benefitcosmetics.com for $31. You’ll need to act fast-one Benetint is sold every two minutes in 47 countries around the world. That’s a lot of Benetint.
